Mizfits will play the Derby City Dynamite on June 26th in the first round of playoffs!
When the smoke cleared on June 19th, the Mizfits ended the season with a real bang! They’ve secured the #2 spot in D3 in the entire WFA. They’ve ended their 5th season with the WFA with a record of 5-1. They’ve more than earned the trip to the playoffs and boy are we proud!
Coming into the last game against the Vanguards, the Mizfits expected to take the win, but it was not done lightly. The Vanguards were impressive with their ball movement during the first half while receiving help from several Mizfit penalties. They hung tough throughout the entire game and played a great game, but the Mizfits were able to secure the victory with a score of 56 to 0.
On the offensive side of things, the Mizfits kept the ball on the ground for a majority of the game. We racked up 400 rushing yards, with a majority belonging to Kaitlin Siddall, Jessica Phelps, Tessa Ortiz-Marsh, Jasmine Brimm, and Kamari Townsend (each with less than 5 carries!). Phelps would take one of her two carries down the field for 80 yards. We also had 3 touchdown passes courtesy of Ortiz-Marsh to Stacey Dykstra and one 70-yard kick return from Brimm for a touchdown. Overall, everything went right for the Mizfits while handling the ball.
Conversely, they struggled to get the defense settled at the start of the game. After a few false start penalties, the Mizfits were defending the goal line a little sooner than expected. Without fail, the defense rallied and made every stop required for the shutout. Brimm, Sheldon Bins, Townsend, and Cie Cie Harris round out the top tacklers for the game, though everyone pretty much got in on the action. Allison Randall, Townsend, and Siddall all took home an interception.
Now….the task at hand is simple: Beat Derby City. The Mizfits are no strangers to the playoff landscape; however, this is the best team they’ve taken so far! Music City has seen a surge in talent among the rookies and veterans alike. Furthermore, the support from fans and volunteers has improve dramatically over the past few years. It takes time to build a legacy, but it looks like the Mizfits are finally seeing the fruits of their labor coming to fruition. One of their biggest secret weapons is not having one; each player has a purpose and a reason for being on that field and they’ll all do the job!
This game will probably be the best game of the entire playoffs. Everyone else calls it a rivalry. You have the #1 and #2 seeds going head to head. It should be livestreamed on Youtube as well as live streamed from the Mizfits sidelines. It’s evident that women’s football is making a name in the South as they fight to bring the glory back to their hometowns. Either way, Music City is just excited to take on the challenge and prove to everyone that they have what it takes to take it all the way.
There’s not much else to say. It’s win or go home now! Eat or be eaten! Fight! To live another day!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND GO MIZFITS!!!!
